that TV alcohol advertising
is bombarding our youth
while responsibility messages
are taking a back seat.
Millie Webb and MADD Win
Prestigious Public Health
Award
Immediate Past President
Millie Webb and MADD will
receive the 2003 Fries Prize
for Improving Health from
the Healthtrac Foundation
on February 19 at the Chronic
Disease Prevention and Control
national conference. The
prestigious award and a
$50,000 donation will be
presented to Millie and
MADD for the grassroots
effort that established
the lifesaving national
standard for drunk driving
at .08% blood alcohol content.
NADS Awarded $2.9 Million
For Alcohol and Driver Performance
Research
The National Advanced Driving
Simulator at the University
of Iowa has received $2.9
million from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) to research the
influence of alcohol on
driver performance and behavior.

Be Fined for Drinking at
Home
Results from a new National
Center on Addiction and
Substance Abuse (CASA) study
prove once again the devastating
impact of alcohol on young
people--in this case, girls
and women. Highlights from
the study include: 45 percent
of high school girls drink
alcohol, 26.4 percent binge
drink, and that girls using
alcohol and drugs are likelier
to attempt suicide.
